AP Chemistry Schedule & Assignments
Week 2 (2/1-2/5) - Scroll down to the appropriate day
Mon Feb 1 - No extra help - Department Head Meeting
In Class we did,
  • collect LAD Safety Posters
  • return quiz 2.1
  • discuss then do LAD 2.3 - Separation of Mixtures
Outside of class you should,
  • Please remind your parents (or significant adult others) that NEXT Wed (2/10) is Parent’s Night. I am expecting that they WILL come.
  • print and read LAD 5.1 - Density of Liquids (Do not make a data table, I will give you one in class.)
  • Review “action” words for chemical & physical changes by doing prob 12 in text (on pg 44) 9, 10, 12-15, 20-22 (don’t forget you have answers you can check in the book and online.)
  • further work with the concepts in chap 2 by working probs
  • read NS 5.2 - Scientific Notation
  • Process the data and answer the questions for LAD 2.3 - Separation of Mixtures, start planning your flow chart
  • use vr-ch2 as a vocab review of chapter 2

Tues Feb 2
- No Extra Help (retakes allowed) - Olympiad Practice
In Class we did,
  • do quick LAD 2.4 - Nuts & Bolts as a Model
  • go over LAD Safety Posters
  • finish LAD 2.3 - Separation of Mixtures
  • discuss issues / problems / flow chart
  • PRS - metric
  • ppt NS 2.3 - mixtures, solutions
  • PreLAD discussion of viscosity
  • do LAD 5.1 - Density of Liquids
Outside of class you should,.
  • Prepare LAD 2.3 to hand in. Data Table and Flow Chart
  • some of you may need to read and study a bit more in chapter 2
  • need to review metric conversions? Do so. Use NS 5.1 and work P 5.1
  • Reread LAD 5.1 - Density of Liquids. We will do it on Wed

Wed Feb 3 - Extra help available, sign up in class.
In Class we did,
  • hand in LAD 2.3 - Mixtures. Data Table and Flow Chart.
  • PreLAD 5.1: viscosity, group measurements, preview, remember to consider Questions to Ponder
  • do LAD 5.1 - Density of Liquids
Outside of class you should,
  • PLEASE email your name & partner’s name & Period # and send me 5 numbers: the average density for each substance measured in 10 ml cylinder - water, alcohol, oil, corn syrup AND send your single density with volumetric flask. Thanks - I’ll make a class data sheet.
  • read NS 5.6 - Error analysis (before answering questions 4-6 on the LAD 5.1)
  • Process the data and answer the questions (jot your answers down on the back of your data table) to Ponder for LAD 5.1 -
  • read the Archimedes Cartoon on the Ch 5 homepage

Thurs Feb 4 - Extra help available, sign up in class.
In Class we did,
  • do NS 5.3 - Significant Figures
  • do LAD 5.2 - Displacement

  • Outside of class you should,
  • Work your way all the way through question 6 on LAD 5.2 - Displacement (Do not continue on to page 2 - we will do that in class on Fri)
  • Practice significant figures by working the sample exercises on pg 2 of NS 5.3 - Significant Figures
  • get even more practice by working P 5.2 - Sig FIgs
  • Print, read and do the PreLAD for LAD 5.3 - Density of Solids (Be sure and read the Questions to Ponder as well.)

Fri Feb 5
- Extra help available, sign up in class.
In Class we did,
  • finish LAD 5.2 - Displacement
  • discuss data table & put up sample data then do LAD 5.3 - Density of Solids
Outside of class you should,
  • Process the data for LAD 5.3 - Density of Solids (Do your graphs on excel or some other spreadsheet / graphing program) (I have posted the extra data you were to copy down in class. If you missed it, I’ve posted on ch 5 document page as LAD 5.3 - Extra Data) Don’t forget to include (0,0) as a data point for each set of data.
  • review “What makes a good graph.” This document (it is NOT called NS 7 any more) is on the top of the ch 5 document page. AND you may find the Excel help document (NS 5.10) helpful (Don’t be afraid to use your excel help option on your own computer.)
  • Answer the Questions to Ponder (#’s 1-6 only for now) for LAD 5.3 - Please type out your answers. Be brief but thorough.
  • You may now view the class data for LAD 5.1 - Density of Liquids (posted on ch 5 document page) Go there and look at it so you can go back and answer Question to Ponder #2 for LAD 5.1
